Beauty and the Streets

I come from a rough part of South East London where crime and poverty is an everyday reality, and community spirit is low.

The next generation are trapped in decaying housing estates, playgrounds are being uprooted and youth centres are at constant threat of closure. Many people I have known have lost their lives over petty disputes and postcode wars.

"Round here you can die over trainers."

When you come from such negative and depressing surroundings, it can be so hard to find beauty and positivity in the world. So I've learnt to open my eyes and really look for the beauty. Like a breath taking sunset, or a child laughing, or an old couple holding hands, just so that I'm able say to myself "this world aint so bad".

And I want to share it with you. But I also want to show you the reality, the things you might not really want to see. Because without seeing the ugly side of life, you can't always appreciate the beauty...
